John Francis Pereira III 6/12/2015 Stonington, CT

John Francis Pereira III of Stonington died on Friday, June 12,,2015 shortly before midnight, at home with his family by his side, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a loving husband and devoted father, born on July 28, 1960, son of John and Julia Pereira of East Greenwich, RI. John was a talented and innovative Systems Engineer, graduate of the University of Southern California. He owned Continental Leisure Products, a manufacturing facility where he designed and manufactured thermoformed spas, jetted tubs and pool stairs found in homes across the country. He was an active member of the Stonington Country Club, and was active in leadership roles for non-profit organizations in the community. John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra (Robitaille) Pereira; his mother Julia Pereira; his three children, MarieAlyse Pereira, Julia Grace Pereira and John Francis Pereira IV; three sisters, Dr. MaryBeth Pereira, Joanne (Pereira) Idell, and Susan (Pereira) Lekas; four brothers-in-law, Dr. David Landau, Dr. Steven Idell, John Strickland and Tom Fisher; one sister-in-law, Joan (Robitaille) Fisher; and six nieces and nephews, Jason Idell, Leslie (Landau) Vitt, Dr. Richard Idell, Anne Landau, Christine Lekas and Nicole Lekas; his aunts and cousins. John is predeceased by his father, John P. Pereira; by his father-and mother-in-law, Louis and Laura (Buckland) Robitaille, Jr; and by his sister-in-law, Patricia (Robitaille) Strickland. John’s family will greet relatives and friends at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic Downtown Mystic, on Wednesday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. A service of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Old Mystic United Methodist Church, 44 Main Street, Old Mystic, CT, the Reverend Carol Johnson and the Reverend Don Adams co-officiating, followed by interment at Elm Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John to support engineering and technology in education to: “The Pereira Family Fund” c/o Pine Point School, 89 Barnes Road, Stonington, CT 06378, or “The Pereira Family Endowed Fund for Science and Engineering, c/o The Williams School, 182 Mohegan Avenue, New London, CT 06320.
